Voola - a next generation rapid application development platform for .Net

DevDefined is working with Voola to help develop their next generation rapid application development platform, taking over from the projects inceptor, Alex James (base4.net), who has since moved to the United States, to take up a role within Microsoft.

Voola is a framework for rapidly building composable versioned applications and components - built upon a REST based ORM and leveraging .Net 3.5 feature such as Linq and open source projects including the Castle Project and Boo.

Due to the relationship built up between Voola and DevDefined Limited, we are able to license the technology for a fraction of the full cost, and using it we can develop unique solutions that would be more complex to develop with other technologies, or require the use of various CTP technologies still under development by Microsoft.

DevDefined working with North Shore City Council on Taxonomy Manager

DevDefined has been working with the North Shore City Council to build an application to make managing and refactoring the complex taxonomy structure used to organise and categorise all information within Council.

The application leverages a number of technologies including:

NHibernate & NHibernate Query Generator

Windows Forms 2.0

Windows Communication Foundation (WCF)

Windsor Container

Rhino Commons

The windsor container has been used extensively to control the complexity of managing the various services and components within the application and applying various cross cutting concerns across the entire domain model.

DevDefined Delivering Front of House App for NSCC

DevDefined is working with the North Shore City Council to rapidly develop a new Front of House web based management application to replace the aging access based system currently in use.

This application was constrained financially, and so a rapid approach was taken when developing the replacement application leveraging ASP.Net 2.0 and a number of largely open source technologies including:

ActiveWriter, ActiveRecord & NHibernate

Monorail

Windsor Container

Yui & ExtJS

Rhino Commons

Sql Reporting Services

Reuse of the existing legacy database, and leveraging the validation and binding support in Monorail allowed a very code-light solution to be created within the limited timeframe and with a limited deployment impact.
